It would probably take a lot of effort to make a continuous operation and worker safe version of this project, but I do have plans on my drawing board if anyone out there has the time and money to pay me to make such a beast! This prototype could break down about 5 pounds of rock sample into individual grains in about 15 minutes if you account for the loading and unloading process. I have plans drawn up for a turntable type loading system and isolation chamber that could potential make a conveyer system, but again...it's well beyond my free time and spare change budget!

This prototype "proof of concept" large scale rock disaggregator was an absolute success, showing that it was possible to break apart just about any rock sample into its individual grains without fracturing any of the different minerals. Obviously, this unit is not safe enough for general use, but being built from mainly salvaged junk and handmade components, it did its job very well, running for many years without any problems whatsoever. The discharge containment vessel was the largest challenge, but the final result was absolutely indestructible and to this day (10 years later) is water tight. This project was incredibly fun to work on not only because of the hack factor, but because of the unbelievable energy that was discharged, often breaking windows and rendering nearby electronics non-functional.

I would be lying if I said I did not enjoy working with dangerous machines, and this project certainly satisfied my hunger for making sparks! The only questing that remains now is... how will I make even bigger sparks?
